May 3rd at Hobby Town

This was the first race of the year at Hobby Town here in Manassas. They are using the 2x4 boards for the walls, and are hard to see over. I stood on the side. Could see most of the track except for the back two turns 150 or so feet away. I got so I was trying to hit the same marks. They had some S curves right in the middle that weren't bad once you got used to them. I did pretty good in the heat race, and finished First with 10 laps in what they called their Main. Really didn't have that many trucks there, maybe 8 or so.

Didn't break anything, so it was a good day, and got some practice at tight turns, which is what the track will be like on Sunday. I only need to make some new tie rods up for the back, as I had the ones from the week before hard wired on, and the other one came off this time. I got a lot of parts this week, so have plenty to put on there.

I also went to the Robinson Slipper Clutch style spur gear. Didn't work out the way it should with the stock spring as it had WAY too much wobble for metal to metal gears in it so made up some washers to go on it to make it work, and think it did ok.

Truck still felt like it was loading up a little on the straights. I had taken the restrictor out of the carburator this week, so maybe that had something to do with it. Will have to see how much more fuel it is eating and if it is worth putting it back in to save fuel. Might be, as I am not sure I could do a 15 minute main on just one fill up between.

Other then that it was a good day.
